Biomass' Power Plant
With the main aim of investing in biomasses, Orengine International has developed a modular concept of power plant system that has been designed for the production of electric and heat energy in a cogenerative way through the use of two steam generation units. The plant uses virgin biomasses as fuel; these materials have a very low environmental impact given the clean nature of the fuel itself. Further, being produced within a radius of 40 km, the emissions due to transport are limited. Only virgin woody biomasses are used and they reach the plant in pieces adapted to combustion: in any case, for the best operation of the plant, different blends of fuel with available materials of different backgrounds can be formulated, possibly remixed to reduce qualitative non-uniformity, so as to ensure the greatest possible consistency of the calorific and moisture values. The steam generated by the two boilers is sent to one turbo alternator of 7.5 MW electrical power. The controlled bleed turbine allows the delivery of 12 thermal MW at 95°C to the heating network (cogenerative regime) during winter. Thermal power is provided through an exchanger to the district heating network.
The plant can also provide 5 thermal MW with water at 32°C, using the heat of the fluid at the turbine exit. This heat, which would otherwise be disposed of in the condenser, does not affect the other energetic performances and allows the optimal exploitation of the heat released by the fuel in the furnace. This thermal power can be used for the heating of greenhouses and environments heated with tubing networks.
The plant will be built to operate continuously at nominal load for over 8,000 hours per year; 92% of the time in a year, with high reliability, ease of management, and elevated performance in terms of energy conversion. Some features:
